Almost everyone who is a fan of ZeeCinema and ZeeBollywood’s “extraordinary characters” will know what a saree is, but going above and beyond to discover some of the big design names and brands behind India’s rich fashion and style, and share some of them with you became a big part of today’s fashion research for me and hence this post. Names like Ritu Kumar, Bibhu Mohaptara, Masaba Gupta, Tarun Tahiliani and more have put Indian fashion on the world map; not that India is a new name when it comes to fashion, Indian fabrics and textiles, embroidery and beautiful handstitches are legendary and a big inspiration to fashion lovers all over the world.
So in my search I discovered Ritu Kumar, an Indian fashion designer and owner of one of India’s leading luxury apparel brands. Ritu Kumar provides from luxury wear to chic casuals, India ethnic wears and fashion accessories.
The brand’s Ritu Kumar Chhaap Collection is detailed and rich with dark colors, elaborate geometric designs, and beautiful embroidery.
The Ritu Kumar Chhaap Collection was created using the art of traditional hand-block printing and original painted kalamkaris (which is a type of hand-painted or block-printed cotton textile produced in Iran or India. Derived from the Persian words qalam (pen) and kari (craftsmanship), meaning drawing with a pen: Wikipedia); the collection is a blend of traditional Indian attire with simple modern designs and include a velvet Zardozi dress, an indigo embroidered Kurta with Dupatta and Churidar, a Bandhni embroidered shawl, a Kalki hand embroidered shawl, a hand embroidered Lehenga set and more.
