The short movie clip begins with the lead female character Louisa May Foster, stepping out of a 1963 Cadillac Sedan Deville in a fitted feather trim off-shoulder orange gown.
Starring Shirley MacLaine, Dick van Dyke, Paul Newman and Gene Kelly, Imitation of Pink is a cut from the 1964 movie, What a Way to Go!
Elizabeth Head, is credited for the costume designs worn by Shirley MacLaine in this movie and also for the wardrobe of many other Hollywood big names. She dressed Grace Kelly for the movie Rear Window, Ingrid Bergman’s costume in Notorious, collaborated with design brand Givenchy to create Audrey Hepburn’s costume in Sabrina and later Funny Face and Breakfast at Tiffany.

Described as one of the most fabulous costumes design in the history of cinema, the costume designs for the movie are nostalgic and showcase an era where clothing was truly magic.
The video clip is a precious find, I think it is one of the very few videos were Elizabeth Head’s creations are displayed side by side.
